The school has adopted the Letter and Sounds document (2007) to teach phonics with the support of some resources from Jolly Phonics.

In EYFS and KS1, phonics is taught daily. Children are grouped across EYFS and KS1 according to the phase they are working at.

More information about letters and sounds can be found here.

Phonics Screening Check

Children in Year will take part in a Phonics Screening Check. Children in Year 2 will also take the check if they did not achieve the required result in Year 1, or they have not taken the test before.

The test contains 40 words. Each child will sit 1:1 and read each word aloud to a teacher. The text takes approximately 10 minutes per child, although all children are different and will complete the check at their own pace.

The list of words the children read is a combination of 20 real words and 20 alien words (nonsense words).
