Summer Term 2

What a quick year it has been! It’s hard to believe that we are in our final half term of Year 2. We would like to take this oppor-tunity to commend the children for all of their hard work and effort during KS1 SATs Week. We are so proud of each and every one of them!

In English we will be writing information texts about castles.

We will also use stories to further develop our spelling and grammar skills in writing.

At home, please encourage your child to rehearse the current class text orally, using actions and good expression. If a child can talk the text then this will support them in writing about it.

In Maths, we will be mastering the concepts that have been taught this year. We will achieve this by completing problem solving and reasoning tasks.

We will continue to practise the 2, 5 and 10 times tables; counting in 3s and number bonds, so that we can recall these facts quickly and mentally.

At home, please support your child by encouraging them to complete their weekly maths homework.

Your Child will participate in daily spelling lessons

Spelling forms a significant part of the writing curriculum and it is important that your child has an understanding of each spelling rule.

To support your child at home, please ensure that they are using their phonics knowledge and their knowledge of spelling rules to spell.

Daily reading activities take place within the class, which are designed to accelerate progress in reading. Please ensure that your child brings their reading book to school every day, so that they can be read with during the week. Please take the time to complete your child's Reading Record when you read with them.

We change reading books every Thursday.

This term we will be continuing our topic entitled 'The Queen'. We will be learning all about The Queen's life and we will also be learning about castles.

Please use the Summer 2 Homework Sheet to access any topic related learning at home. We would love to see any completed tasks in school! Remember, your child will earn points for completing these tasks.

Monday: ball skills

Children do not get changed for this lesson.

Thursday: gymnastics/dance

Please ensure that your child has their P.E. kit in school for this lesson.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support!

Miss Lyons and Mrs Smith
